After work today we hit up a couple second hand stores to see what we could find. I'm beginning to wonder if the employees at one of the locations have us pinned as, "that couple who __fill_in_the_blank__" yet. It's getting kinda difficult for me to make eye contact with them when I'm entering the store, it's as if I'm sending a signal, "Yes, I'm here again today". Slightly funny, very silly when I really think about it; I guess they should get use to it. In retrospect the bottom line is that it's basically all in my head.
I came across a couple of things at the second location.
This toy is so cool - it's a button triggered basketball game called, "Shorty Shooter" released in 1978 by Tomy. It works and looks great - just slide the blue knob to the left to start the timer. Using the 3 orange buttons, you have to pass and shoot the basketball from players 1 to 2 to 3 without being blocked by players 5 and 7. Each basket made before the timer runs out is shown on the Tomy toys scoreboard.
The second item was this 'Rugrats The Movie: In Paris" Chatback watch featuring the characters Phil & Lil. It was given away in 2000 by participating Burger King outlets. I decided to leave it behind during my last visit as it was behind a glass display case so I assumed that the price tag was more than I was willing to pay. Anyway turns out it was $1.99 so I picked it up. I'm pretty sure it may still work and might just require new batteries.
I'm not a big fan of fast food toy promotions any later than 1997 but I wasn't aware that this Chatback watch was released under Burger King until I got home and did some research. It looks nice, I enjoy the package and the Rugrats franchise so I'm not chaulking this one up as a loss.
Oh I also received a package in the mail today containing my most sought after type of toy, you could even say I might have even caught my 'white whale'. But I'll leave that for the next post.
Linking up with Apron Thrift Girl: Thrift Share Monday
I knew a girl in school who was obsessed with Rugrats. She'd never admit it to anybody who didn't know her closely though.
ReplyDeleteI don't speak to her anymore, so I guess I can tell her secret.
Rugrats was one of the last animated series' that I genuinely enjoyed watching. Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteThat basketball game looks so familiar! The people at my favorite thrifts stores know me now. They wave at me and say hi when I walk in. And I've had a few of them save things for me behind the counter because they know it's my kind of stuff. Now, if I can just get them to give me a discount I'd be all set.
ReplyDeleteIt's awesome, I love it! And it sounds like you have quite the connections at your second hand shops!
