Pumped Up Thrifts

Ah the first blog entry; perhaps the most difficult post to start writing.  I've read somewhere that the easiest way to begin writing your blog is to start somewhere in the middle.

Lately we've been fairly lucky when it comes down to coming across 'thrifted gold' at the local thrift stores.

Found this 'Quicksand' board game originally released by Parker Brothers in 1989 in pretty good condition; had all the pieces including the instructions in tact.  This has been a board game I've been on the lookout for a while now so it was nice to finally find it while thrifting.  There's a lot of nostalgic value attached to this game as it was a grade four classroom favorite during lunch.  I was probably more fond of the playing pieces  than the actual game as the game itself tends to become quite boring to be honest.

Another board game found during the same thrift outing; another game that I can cross off my lookout list.  '13 Dead End Drive' was released in 1993 by Milton Bradley; I remember wanting this game bad when I was a kid as the commercial made the board game seem like a ton of fun - killing off your opponents playing pieces using in-game traps, what wasn't there to love.  It's one of those games that take 30 minutes to set up and about 10 minutes to play.

We've never come across a 'Care Bear' plush from the 80s release while thrifting; but I guess that day was our lucky day as we just so happened to find three hanging out in the plush bin.  'Bedtime Bear', 'Birthday Bear' and 'Friend Bear' were all released by Kenner in 1983 - 'Friend Bear' looks more loved than the other Bears but for an item that seems so rare to find it's not an issue.  Besides I think the wear gives him a little charm.

Also found these plush dolls of Buster and Babs Bunny from the cartoon 'Tiny Toons'.  They were released by Playskool in 1990.  Couldn't find Buster's trademark red t-shirt anywhere in the store and so I was just gabout to leave him there; Holly found Babs tossed on the floor in the fabrics section and decided it would only be right that they should stick together.  I'm glad that she did now.

And that's not all - I also found these complete puzzles; the one above is from 'Bucky O'Hare' - a comic book turned animated TV series that came out during the late 80s early 90s.  Never read the comics as a kid but I did own a few of the action figures and can remember watching the cartoon.

The other complete puzzle is from the Disney animated TV series 'Rescue Rangers' - one of my favorite shows as a young one.  I can remember watching this every Saturday on the 'Disney Afternoon' hosted by Mike Sobel.

And so there you have it - quite a mighty haul out of the thrift store during our last visit.  Hopefully we continue to run into this sort of prosperous luck.
