Quickie

I never write as much as I'd like.
I should really get to bed because we have plans to wake up earlier than usual in the morning to do the weekly Sunday laundry jaunt; but I was inspired to write a little after reading Holly's post over at her blog.  Although I don't have the slightest clue on what I'd like to ramble on about.

Kermee is sleeping next to me on the couch, curled up into a ball - seeing her in that position makes me want to go to bed even more and do the same.

Me and Holly want our own house.  I've been renting for far too long and it's been such a waste of money.  Having our own home will be a solid foundation to start building our lives on; there's just so many possibilities.  It's time to get serious.

Ahh I wish I could keep writing but this will have to do for now.

A Couple New Thrift Finds

It's a beautiful day outside; for the first time this year the car was warm (due to the sun's rays) as soon as we hopped inside this morning.  Feels good.  A solid indication that summer is just around the corner.

As for how thrifting has been going, I feel as if my finds have been pretty mediocre as of late but I'll share a couple recent things that have caught my eye.

This 1985 Transformers "Sun Raid" Coloforms book won me over while browsing the books section.  It still includes a few coloforms inside but unfortunately not the entire set.  The book also came with a tape that's apparently hard to find.  With the cassette tape you could listen to and follow along placing the colorforms on their correct page to match the story.

Latest Thrift Picks Ups

We've been hitting up the second hand spot almost daily these past two weeks.  We've found quite a few items to take home during our ventures there.  Drumroll please.

Here's a Circus Royale figurine of a lion; I really like the detail and paint job done with this ornament, my intentions were to attempt at re-selling but I think I'll keep it for myself.

Late Night Entry

Woke up to a beautiful morning - the majority of the snow from the storm that occured this past weekend has melted away and it's actually starting to feel like Spring.  Maybe I can finally retire my pea coat into the closet for the season.

But the day could not have been deemed complete without a little bit of thrifting involved.

Found these adorable pilgrim salt and pepper shakers hanging out together on the front end of the houseware aisle.  At only $1.99 for the pair I had to pick them up and claim them as new additions to our overcrowded salt and pepper shaker shelf.

April Fool's Gone Past And You're The Biggest Fool At Last

So the weekend comes to an end - Holly goes back to work in the morning and as for me I have tomorrow off; unlike her, my weekly work schedule is pretty inconsistant and I never have an entire weekend off.

We did a little shopping earlier this evening; I just figured it would be something to do, just to get us out of the house after spending the majority of the weekend snowed inside our apartment.  Even if I have no interest in buying anything I'm perfectly content just browsing the aisles.

I didn't have any intentions on buying anything but I didn't end up going home empty handed.

We've been picking up the Peanuts specials on DVD to coincide with the ringing in of the holidays - with Easter just around the corner it was that time to purchase the 1974 Peanuts classic, "It's the Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown".  I can't recall if I've ever seen this television special in it's entirety before but since it's been aired annually on network television since I've been born (and another 11 years previous to that), I just might have.

Just Another Thrift Day

Third entry in three days - I'm on a roll (whenever I hear that phrase I think of this scene from the Beetlejuice animated TV series where he is literally balancing himself on a bread roll).

After work today we hit up a couple second hand stores to see what we could find.  I'm beginning to wonder if the employees at one of the locations have us pinned as, "that couple who __fill_in_the_blank__" yet.  It's getting kinda difficult for me to make eye contact with them when I'm entering the store, it's as if I'm sending a signal, "Yes, I'm here again today".  Slightly funny, very silly when I really think about it; I guess they should get use to it.  In retrospect the bottom line is that it's basically all in my head.

I came across a couple of things at the second location.

This toy is so cool - it's a button triggered basketball game called, "Shorty Shooter" released in 1978 by Tomy.  It works and looks great - just slide the blue knob to the left to start the timer.  Using the 3 orange buttons, you have to pass and shoot the basketball from players 1 to 2 to 3 without being blocked by players 5 and 7. Each basket made before the timer runs out is shown on the Tomy toys scoreboard.

What Does Thrifting, University and Pizza have In Common? It's What I Did Today.

I had a lot of fun while hunting for stuff today with Holly.  I think I've caught a thrifting bug, even as I type this entry sitting in bed at 12am - I am urging to visit a second hand store.  No lie.  I wonder if 24 hour second hand stores exist... Now there's a thought for me to Google up an answer to.

Before I do a run down of this evenings thrifty pick-ups I just wanted to document that I registered for University earlier today; I was overly nervous that something disastrous would happen - like a snowball of cursed events would occur while attempting to register (forgetting my student ID, locking myself out of my account etc) that would lead me to not being able to register on time.  Well in the end it was a whole lot of worrying over nothing because it all went pretty smoothly.  I even called the help-line just to confirm that everything was okay on my end.  Paranoid?  Yeah, just a little bit.

Okay so here are a few things that I came across at the thrift store earlier today that attracted my interest.

Found this cute Snoopy plush sporting a yellow raincoat, green boots and slicker hat - it looks brand new.  No tush tags indicating copyright but after a quick Google search I found out it was made for Hallmark under the title 'Springtime Snoopy'.

I also found one of these 1996 McDonald's Mini Goalie Masks lying on a shelf; the mask is a replica of New York Rangers netminder Mike Richter.  I had a couple of these back in '96, the one above I'm positive that I owned - not sure what happened to them all now, most accurate assumption would be that they were thrown out.  The set consists of 11 masks; value wise they're best found still left in the plastic bag but on the other hand it makes them an undisplayable eyesore.
